One of our first projects of the 2018 - 2019 school year for English was to revisit the same ideas from our smart goals last year. Mrs. Cunningham wants us to take these ideas and further increase the complexity of our goals from last year with our absolutely massive brains. We all know, that with big brains comes big responsibilities as well as knowledge. With all of the knowledge and wisdom Mrs. Cunningham has provided us since last year, I feel that I have full capability of not only creating a great smart goal for myself but actually going through and completing it.
Mrs. Cunningham has asked us to create 2 separate smart goals, one for our personal life and one for our academic life at school. For my personal life goal, I have chosen to get a job at Canadian Tire or Toys R Us by the end of October. That gives me 6 weeks to try and complete my goal. I am certain that I am going to complete my goal because I have recently been talking with Canadian Tire about possible jobs and they guaranteed me a job when I turn 16. They may have guaranteed me a job, but with any goal in life, I need to put in the work and do what I need to do to help my chances of overall success. I'm not gonna lie, my effort towards my academic year and how I put my mind to things wasn't the greatest last year. I didn't put the effort and determination I needed to have into my work last year and it just resulted in failure. This year for my smart goal I am going to attempt at putting in the maximum amount of effort I can to be the most successful I can be throughout this school year. Not only is this going to be an accomplishment for myself if I succeed, but it will also be an accomplishment for my parents because they've been trying to make me care about school my entire life.

The end of the semester is coming up, and i've learned a'lot since the start of the year. With the help of both my teachers, and my band members I have been able to further increase my skills as not only a musician, but a person as well. The most important thing that I was able to learn was hot to read proper music and not just tablature. There have been many good times throughout the semester but I think the highlight of MY semester was when we were recording our first youtube video. during the recording process there were many good laughs and we just had an all around good time enjoying each others company. This entire semester has been a learning process for me, and I've learned that myself as a musician, I have my strong points and my weak points, as does every musician. The thing that challenged me the most this semester was that I kind of got overwhelmed by the amount of work that we were given. It was particularly challenging for me because I am a bit of a procrastinator so everything just got ahead of me and I was very stressed and unable to complete projects. I haven't yet overcome this challenge but I have been trying to stay on top of my assignments and get them done on time. One goal I am setting for myself for next semester is to stay ahead of my work so that I can be the most successful student and musician that I can be.
I was really disappointed that I was unable to make it and perform at the celebration of learning this year. I wasn't able to perform because none of my other band members were able to make it and I was uncomfortable playing by myself. Although I really wanted to perform, it was easy for me to make the choice not to because I really do not like performing in front of large groups, especially by myself. Its okay that we didn't perform during the celebration though, because me and my band Away Future are setting up a concert sometime in January. It is extremely important that all of us are there for the performance in January because if even one person isn't there, everything falls apart because we all have a certain role to play in building the success of the concert. We do not know the exact date for our performance but we do know that it will be mid January and it will be hosted inside Croxford. Throughout the next couple weeks we are doing some extreme preparations and practicing to make sure that everybody will be able to make it and that we are 100% prepared to put on a great show for our audience.
Over the past week or so, in class we've been talking about procrastination and time management.
Going over this topic has really made me think about the decisions i've been making in my life and I have realized that I am a massive procrastinator. I have decided to try and get my act together and start taking positive steps toward better time management. If I want to start being successful, time management is going to have to become part of my life because time management plays a key part in bing successful. One of the ways i'm going to start managing my time is with google calendar. In our website, Mr. Purnell made us set up a personal calendar and a public calendar. Our personal calendar is for our everyday lives, so we're supposed to add things that are going on in my everyday life. My public calendar is for school related events that need to be done on time. The assignments that are close to their due dates or overdue are my top priority. My number one priority right now is my website research project thats due on Friday next week. In order to make that happen, i'm going to need a smart goal. My smart goal for the week is to get my website research project due on time, and use my class time efficiently to achieve my goal. My goal is specific, to get my project done on time. My goal is measurable, as in I am going to be able to measure the amount of work I do each day. My goal is attainable, There wouldn't be a due date if it wasn't attainable. My goal is relevant, I want to be successful and in order to do that I need to get my work done. Finally, my goal is timely, i'm going to work everyday for the next week to have it done by Friday next week. Yesterday, the CMA, as well as all of the other W.H Croxford High School Academies, went across the street to the RVS building. When we got there, the academies started the day by doing a couple fun activities with the drama teacher, Ms. Rodgers. After that we had this really long presentation to sit through and to be honest I didn't really pay attention so i'm pretty lost writing this right now. The only thing I really got out of the presentation was that we should have a smart goal for the year. "Smart" is an acronym for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely. I need one smart goal for my education and the CMA and one personal goal for me to complete. I didn't really figure out my smart goals until a week or so after the presentation, But when I did figure out what my goals were I was sure that they were what I wanted to do and actually contribute and go through with my goal to actually achieve it. My Academy smart goal for the year is to be able to play a new instrument, the saxophone specifically by the end of the year. To achieve this goal I am going to try and play the saxophone at least once a week for half of the class for the duration of the year. I want to be able to play at least one song on the saxophone by the end of the year. This task is going to be difficult though, because I am currently in a band as the rhythm guitarist so most of my time will be focused on the band but I am going to try. My second smart goal had to be a personal goal. My personal goal is to get a job by the end of November. The kind of job that I would most prefer would be something in the sports community so to help achieve my goal I applied for multiple sports related stores around the area. To try and further increase my chance of attaining successfulness in my goal, every 2 weeks I am going to go around the area and hand out resumes to possible employment locations.
